Since many of our colleagues were tapped to provide their expertise, the signing of yesterday’s one trillion-dollar Infrastructure Executive Order is significant. The plan puts the environment first, “If a project doesn’t meet environmental safeguards, we don’t do it.” And flow charts showing the permitting process taking a decade, or two, for previous infrastructure projects demonstrate where the cost savings could be to fund this plan. Nine Federal Agencies oversee permitting, but under the new plan, one of them will take the lead for each project allowing for a clear line of authority. The results would be safe and modern infrastructure plus job creation for those who did not fully share in the financial recovery. One thing for sure, our industry knows “how to make it happen,” it’s the way we survive.
