Overview

Princeton University's Department of Facilities (https://facilities.princeton.edu/), Office of Capital Projects (OCP), seeks an Interior Design Project Manager to join a dynamic team of professional designers.

The Interior Design Project Manager will be responsible for projects that range from the selection of replacement furniture for a faculty office to being a part of a team for larger projects with budget responsibilities ranging from $100 to $6,000,000. The emphasis will be on academic spaces, administrative and faculty office spaces and residential living housing and student centers.

The Interior Design Project Manager will be instrumental in successfully executing multiple projects, maintaining interior design standards, budgets and records, and reporting to team leadership.

The Interior Design Project Manager will report to the Program Manager, Campus Interiors, and be a member of the design team comprising of five Interior Design Project Managers who work in collaboration with OCP Program and Project Managers and with staff in other Facilities departments, including the Office of the University Architect.

The position is available for a term of 3 years with the possibility for renewal. The position is fully eligible to receive the extensive benefits that Princeton offers its administrative workforce.



Responsibilities

  • Manage a wide range of project types of up to 40-50 small projects annually with an estimated spend of $1,500,000.
  • Portfolio of work may also include being part of a larger team for one or two large capital projects with an estimated furniture spend of $1,000,000 - $6,000,000.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, project time-lines and project central reporting.
  • Maintain comprehensive project files and central records.
  • Manage external consultants and contractors.
  • Planning and the selection of furniture and finishes for multiple types of projects, including some residential.
  • Prepare and present design presentations.
  • Select, specify and develop finish palettes.
  • Select, specify and procure furniture and accessories, adhering to University design standards.
  • Prepare, submit and level bid packages.
  • Develop and coordinate mock-ups.
  • Have basic knowledge of construction details and mill-work.
  • Oversee installations and completion of furniture, finishes, punch list and project closure.
  • Provide monthly status reporting on project portfolio and occasional ad-hoc reports.
  • Partner with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within client expectations and within budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from an accredited interior design school.
  • Minimum of five years of interior design experience, including project management, in the Interior Architecture/Interior Design Industry. Higher Education and/or corporate in house workplace experience in addition to design studio experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of materials and specifications, furniture sourcing and vendor resources.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability, ADA and LEED guidelines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, specifically with senior management, clients, consultants and contractors.
  • Ability to self-prioritize work and operate within a highly charged dynamic work environment.
  • Creative, self-motivated designer with significant technical ability.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit and all Adobe programs, Blue Beam, Sketch-Up, In-Design and MS Applications (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) and willingness to learn new technology.
