Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Urban/Regional Planning, Architecture or Landscape Architecture. Four years of professional experience in park and recreation system planning, park and recreation administration and/or urban planning to include supervisory experience are required.


Recruitment Notes: 

Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department's (PROS) seeks a candidate with commitment to building a more livable community through the implementation of Miami-Dade County's Parks and Open Space Master Plan and Recreation Program Plan.  This will be accomplished through the planning, design and construction of iconic parks and public spaces, the preservation and enhancement of natural areas, cultural and historic sites, the implementation of greenways, waterways and safe routes to parks.

The successful candidate will lead the Planning and Research Division.  Responsibilities of this position include:  park design and masterplan development to guide capital projects, long range park and recreation planning programs, policies and strategies, land acquisition strategies,  manage park assets and inventory, foster local, state and federal agency partnerships, represent the department in public meetings and key boards such as the Planning Advisory Board,  coordinate with multiple teams within the department to advance the Masterplan's equity, access, seamlessness, beauty, sustainability and multiple benefits goals, evaluate sea level rise impacts, and health assessments that guide existing and future planning and development of parks.

The ideal candidate will have outcome-oriented management experience that evidences the capacity to effectively lead while growing and sustaining a high level of collaboration, innovation and productivity, critical to the department's success and sustainable future.  The successful candidate will also demonstrate a collaborative leadership style employing innovative, creative problem solving and the ability to work with multiple teams while effectively managing individuals and multiple projects. Excellent communication skills, both in public speaking and writing; analytical and critical thinking skills; and an understanding of zoning, Comprehensive Development Master Plan processes, sustainability and resiliency planning are critical.
