Our client is a renewable energy development company that is currently focused on greenfield development in the North American solar sector. The team brings over 250 years of collective industry experience and perspective having developed more than 1GW of renewable projects. As a full-service firm with capabilities including development and construction through financing and operations, they are able to provide creative solutions to large energy users and landowners in North America. Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to join their Accounting & Finance team as they work to create the bridge from today’s clean energy reality to tomorrow’s possibilities for commercial energy users throughout the United States.

 

Job Summary:

The Director of Accounting will report to the Controller and will be responsible for day-to-day oversight of the company’s monthly close and review process, training and mentorship of junior staff members, with additional responsibilities in treasury management. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of private and public accounting experience and will be expected to build strong working relationships across the organization (including origination, construction, and operations teams) as well as external counterparties (including lenders, investors, and auditors). This role requires a dynamic, agile, and hands-on professional to execute and optimize accounting processes in a fast-paced and growing environment.

 

Required Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all day-to-day accounting operations and activities, including oversight of A/R and A/P, fixed assets (capex vs opex determinations), cash, and other activity
  • Manages the monthly close timeline process across all businesses and special purpose entities, including review of journal entries, inter-company transactions, account analyses and reconciliations
  • Manages system administration of ERP (Intacct) and other systems (Concur, Nexonia T&E)
  • Supports the preparation of financial analysis and management reporting, including investor reports, presentations, distribution reports, and KPIs
  • Coordinates cash management and manage cash distribution process
  • Collaborates with other functional teams to implement technology that helps automate processes for greater efficiency, accuracy, and consistency
  • Supports multiple external financial statement audits
  • Develops and documents business processes and accounting policies to drive operational efficiencies and strengthen internal controls, as needed
  • Manages other regulatory and tax compliance procedures, including 1099 and sales tax filings
  • Manages and leads accounting staff, providing overall direction, oversight, and coaching
  • Assists with outside consultants, including tax preparers, and special projects as directed by the controller or CFO
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA license
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in corporate accounting, with progressive leadership experience
  • Skilled with ERP system such as Intacct, Netsuite, or other similar system
  • Ability to design financial processes and controls
  • Strong command of business and accounting principles (US GAAP), including consolidation reporting/elimination entries
  • High accuracy and detail orientation; confident decision-making skills
  • Ability to assist in managing several third-party relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify problems and discrepancies, independently perform research and analysis of causes, and recommend corrective actions
  • Demonstrated skills in supervising, coaching staff, and developing high performing teams
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Excel (advanced experience preferred), Word and Powerpoint
  • Mindful, accountable, responsible, respectful and collaborative approach to work
  • Experience in the renewable energy, power and utilities, real estate, or construction industries is preferred
  • Background in public accounting at a Big 4 or national firm is preferred
  • Experience deploying and implementing accounting platforms (including integration with ERP systems) strongly preferred
