Description
Under the direction of the Director of Real Estate and Real Assets and Director of Operations, with ad-hoc reporting to senior investment officers, the Operations Officer will perform the following duties:
- Support the asset class teams in operational elements of all investment related activities.
- Assist investment officers in performing due diligence for potential real estate and real asset opportunities by collecting relevant materials and data.
- Interface with a variety of operational constituencies (legal, accounting, managers, investment officers) to facilitate the deal process once approved by the Internal Investment Committee or Real Estate Advisory Committee.
- Work with the fund’s accounting staff, consultants, and custodian bank to establish timelines and ensure timely capital calls and accurate distributions of capital.
- Support onboarding investment management solutions to enable superior performance and liaise with IT to connect external solutions to OSC and PICM systems
- Maintain “first line of contact” with external partners to receive and report pertinent operational developments, reports, and other investment related data.
- Work with Legal and Accounting to facilitate initial capital distributions to and ongoing financial reporting from co-investments and JVs by identifying critical reporting needs, sources of needed information, and reliable reporting responsibilities
- Act as the daily point person with custodian bank and external investment managers’ operations.
- Assist and coordinate with the preparation of content for Board and Investment Committee meeting materials.
- Assist with the processing of requests for amendments and consents and ensure that the CRF responds in a prompt manner.
- Assist in the procurement process for investment-related systems and services from end-to-end including RFP development and issuance, evaluation committee organization, and paperwork generation.
- Assist with investment presentations, memos, analytical exercises, data-gathering projects, and other “ad-hoc” requests
- Assist in the management of the affordable housing mortgage program.
- Work with investment teams on an ongoing basis to identify investment process improvement opportunities.
- Assist accounting with the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
- Assist with any audit requests for documentation.
- Maintain accurate, timely, complete investment files.
- Special projects as requested by Directors.
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university majoring in business, finance, economics, accounting, or related field
- Understanding of basic investment concepts, strategies, asset classes, and fundamental investment factors
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Finance, Accounting, or Investment Operations
- Strong oral and written communication skills to assist with memos, presentations, proposals, and other internal communications
Preferred Qualifications/Desired Competencies:
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Finance, Accounting, or Investment Operations (Relevant internships in asset management or finance industry count towards time accrued)
- High ethical standards and commitment to the fiduciary responsibilities of a pension fund
- Team player who stands ready to assist other members of the team to achieve unit objectives and actively seeks coaching, learning and growth opportunities
- Knowledge of investment operations functions, including transaction structure, accounting, reporting, and monitoring
- Knowledge of core investment concepts, strategies, operations, and fundamental investment factors across real estate and real assets
- Working knowledge of software and systems used to monitor and manage investments
- Knowledge of relevant statistical concepts used in investment monitoring and reporting
- Detail-oriented working style and careful attention to complex operational processes
- Ability to communicate issues, variances, solutions to business partners
- Ability to meet deadlines, work under supervision, and take a detail-oriented approach to work
- High degree of independence, self-direction, and time management ability
- Working knowledge of advanced MS Office capabilities for charting and data manipulation
