Position Overview:

Reporting to the Controller, the Project Accountant is responsible for production of accurate and timely financial reporting and projections as well as full cycle accounting and management of payables of assigned projects. The position is financial and real estate development focused in nature, requiring strong analytical thinking, spreadsheet skills and real estate development insight and knowledge. The position will work will offer an energizing, challenging, fun and invaluable learning environment. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial reporting, including the preparation project financial statements
  • Provide accurate project reporting and projections on a timely basis
  • Process A/P and A/R for projects.

 

Specific Duties:

  • Develop and maintain project proformas and trial balances.
  • Liaise with project team on job costing and project accounting issues.
  • Perform cashflow forecasting, cash management and financial reports.
  • Monthly job cost reporting and property under development (PUD) review.
  • Communicate with quantity surveyors, appraisers, lawyers, auditors and bank personnel.
  • Assist in the preparation of management reports.
  • Bank reconciliations and check deposits.
  • Maintain the integrity of accounts payable for job costing system.
  • Liaise with the development/real estate team and other departments to ensure all supplier and accounts payable related issues are resolved effectively and efficiently.
  • Prepare invoices for coding/approval, match to supporting documents.
  • Prepare job cost A/P vouchers, post batches.
  • Prepare check runs, match to supporting documents, and submit for approval.
  • Maintain A/P and A/R filing system.
  • Prepare credit application forms as required.
  • Maintenance of deposit schedules.
  • Provide assistance in the preparation of internal and external draw requests.
  • Monthly inter-company reconciliation.
  • Provide basic accounting support.
  • Provide assistance with the audit schedules.
  • Contact with auditors for accounts payable inquiries.
  • Timely reporting and payment of governmental tax withholdings/reports.

 

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Project accounting and job costing.
  • Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proven self-starter who learns quickly.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects.
  • Highly methodical with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with any accounting software would be an asset.
  • Strong team player.
  • Strong problem solving skills/ willingness to take initiative to find creative solutions to emerging issues.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to ever changing circumstances.
  • Unquestionable integrity and strong work ethic.
