The City and County of Denver’s Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) is seeking a City Planning Supervisor to join our Design, Site & Neighborhood Development Team.

 

This position will be responsible for the supervision of the Projects team. The team consists of professional and technical staff responsible for the multi-disciplinary Coordinated Review Process and approval of development projects requiring site development plan review, as well as being the ongoing standard liaisons with the city’s Zoning Administrator, Commercial Zoning, DOTI Development Engineering Services, and other agencies involved in the Coordinated Review Process.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise a team of professional and technical staff providing support to customers of Development Services and related staff, and participation as required to resolve issues of projects, policies, and regulations. This work will involve direct interaction with other Directors, Managers, Engineering Supervisors, DOTI staff, Site Engineering, Project Coordinators, the Zoning Administrator, additional city staff, developers, owners, consultants, and customers

  • Development and evolution of performance metrics for the Development Project Management team including measures for customer satisfaction, staff workload, on-time reviews, review quality, and ongoing staff support.

  • Development of goals, objectives, policies and priorities that foster improvement of the city through development review and land use planning regulations, transportation/infrastructure planning, and the implementation of housing policies. A key role will also be involved with the Development Services Technical Advisory Committee, regarding developing and implementing new regulator and process mechanisms.
     

  • Execute and sustain a training program for project coordination staff covering customer service and technical roles including multi-disciplinary review and approval of residential and commercial projects

About You

 

Our ideal candidate:

  • Experience that demonstrates a multi-disciplinary approach to community and land use planning and development

  • Five to eight years of professional level experience in community, city, regional, or transportation/infrastructure planning, development review, or housing and neighborhood revitalization

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively – verbally and in writing

  • Efficiently demonstrates excellent time/work management skills

  • Works well under pressure and able to multitask

  • Problem solver that can envision various outcomes and plan accordingly to mitigate risky outcomes

  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized

  • Self-motivated and motivated to help others

  • Ability to work as part of a team to support both internal and external customers

  • Dependable and can maintain confidentiality

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in City or Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related degree.

  • Experience: Seven (7) years of professional planning experience.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
