Summary

Real Estate Private Equity/Developer hiring a Senior Accountant responsible for the overall financial analysis and reporting of the Company and all its investment properties and subsidiaries. The candidate will be detail-oriented, technically proficient, a strategic thinker, and a confident financial/accounting management leader.


The candidate will have strong knowledge of the accounting and financial functions as well as business processes of real estate development and acquisitions, with proven capability to communicate and collaborate with peers, contractors, vendors, attorneys, lenders, and investors. The right candidate must have a positive and entrepreneurial mindset. The candidate will be able to work independently, embrace new opportunities, and wear different hats in the organization's accounting/finance function. They must be comfortable in challenging situations.

Valiance Capital is a privately held real estate investment firm that focuses on the acquisition of opportunistic, value-add multifamily and student housing properties. We specialize in repositioning well-located assets with significant value-add potential through the successful execution of a detailed investment strategy and vertically integrated management platform, with a focus on high demand/supply-constrained markets in California.


Our firm – while still in Start Up mode – is currently undergoing a surge of successful growth and is zeroing in on its next key hire that will help take our company from $100MM to $1BN in AUM within the next 9 years.

Valiance Capital is a small collaborative working environment. All levels of the company – staff and managers – work directly with the CEO. This position is in our Berkeley office. The new hire will have the opportunity to join an entrepreneurial team and work directly with senior management.


Responsibilities

  • Work with senior management to develop solutions and execute against all aspects of accounting and financial analysis
  • Provide financial planning and forecasting, P&L analysis, and reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate internal and external financial reporting and analysis including actionable financial information to management and quarterly investor reporting
  • Create and analyze complex financial information (development and real estate investment funds) and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations and business performance to management for decision making purposes
  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of financial data across financial reporting systems and processes. Support the maintenance of a strong internal control system
  • Work with the finance team to lead continuous improvement initiatives for key financial systems, infrastructure, and reports
  • Help with the direction, ongoing development, and implementation of policies, processes, and systems to build the infrastructure necessary to support a high-growth organization
  • Manage project budgets, review field purchase orders, and provide reporting
  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping at the property and corporate level across all entities
  • Oversee the preparation of K-1s and periodic tax filings, including and property tax filings and appeals
  • Assist with new loans and reporting requirements for current loans
  • Assist with financial modeling for new and existing projects
  • Manage relationship with auditors
  • Managing outside vendors/consultant as required
  • Manage insurance programs
  • Additional accounting/finance related tasks as they arise

  • Highly proficient at creating elegant, efficient, and effective financial models, budgets, and reports, with the desire to train others to do the same.

  • Hands-on leadership style with great people development skills, including the ability to motivate, mentor, develop and retain high-performing people
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software is a plus; must be able to apply a sophisticated technical acumen in building Valiance Capital’s accounting platform
  • Possesses impeccable integrity and business ethics, operating in a transparent manner
  • Ability to anticipate change and consistently meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Able to work under tight time constraints and extended hours as required

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or another related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive financial/accounting responsibilities
  • Prior senior experience in accounting at a multi-project company is essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control methods, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Proven track record working complex, multi-project (job costing) P&L's with direct responsibility for growth and profitability goal achievement
  • MS Office Excel (intermediate to advanced level)

IDEAL, but not required

  • Real estate development horizontal construction experience
  • Investment, acquisition, and due diligence experience in residential development projects
  • Understanding of real estate development and financing processes, including but not limited to market analysis, financial analysis, property valuation, and capital structures.
