Position Overview:

Under the direction of the VP of Finance, the Controller is responsible for protecting assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls and SOP’s, overseeing daily accounting operations, including construction activities, budgeting, control costs, collections and analyzing monthly statements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages the operation of the accounting department, overseeing 3-5 staff members
  • Prepares accurate and timely financial reports for all company operations including property level financial reporting, variance analysis and account reconciliations
  • Oversee and direct the processing of all A/R and A/P (including but not limited to tenant billings, bank reconciliations, lease abstracting, mortgage statements/escrows)Create and implement standard operating procedures and internal controls
  • Work directly with Property Management, Leasing/Brokerage and Development teams
  • Monitor cash positions for all company operations, prepare cash flow analysis, and prepare budget forecasting
  • Review tenant cam reconciliations
  • Monitor bank balances and work with lenders
  • Provide analytical/due diligence support for property acquisitions and developments
  • Assist VP in preparation of financial packages for prospective lenders and investors
  • Oversee lender compliance financial reports including preparing lender budgets
  • Work directly with hotel controller, review hotel financials
  • Recommend, create and implement all financial policies and procedures
  • Organize financial data for tax returns and sale tax returns
  • Prepare property tax and personal property payments and analysis, property protests, all insurance renewals
  • Completes all other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field
• Five (5) years of experience in finance, accounting, budget, cash management, credit, insurance, tax and treasury options
• Three (3) years of supervisor and management experience
• General knowledge of accounting/financial systems
• Specialized knowledge of accounting/finance principles
• Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office or similar software applications
• Ability to perform advanced-level accounting and financial analyses under limited supervision
• Ability to use office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax/scan machines
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) required
• Ability to multi-task, work successfully under pressure, and effectively prioritize and manage time and workload
• Must be to work with sensitive and confidential material with discretion and confidentiality
• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English
• Must have a good driving record, valid, driver’s license, vehicle insurance and a reliable vehicle

Preferred

• Master’s degree in business administration, finance or accounting
• CPA certification
